SAFETY TIPS FOR HARBISON PATHWAYS
- Plan your route ahead of time.
- Walk during the hours when you will be most visible. If walking in the early morning hours and late at night when it is dark outside, wear a reflective vest and carry a flashlight. Consider carrying a small defensive object such as handheld pepper spray.
- Dress appropriately for the time of year and time of day. If you choose to walk at dark, wear light- colored clothing, including a vest or a reflective belt. Wear appropriate footwear, like sneakers. Never wear valuable jewelry while walking.
- Change up your walking route so your route is not consistently the same.
- ALWAYS CARRY SOME FORM OF IDENTIFICATION AND YOUR CHARGED CELLPHONE.
- Stay aware of your surroundings. If you listen to music, use just one earbud. Avoid talking on your cellphone or texting. Distracted walking is dangerous!! Be aware of other walkers, uneven paths, ice, tree roots, and other hazards along the route.
- For personal safety, try to find a walking partner. If you do walk alone let someone know you are on a walk and the route you intend to travel. Your cellphone app will also track your route. The cellphone apps will also serve to locate your position should you get “turned around”. Google or Safari both give directions. Tunnels are marked overhead with the nearest street.
- To see a map indicating the pathway trails, please go to the homepage of the community’s website (www.harbisonhca.com), look in the Association main menu and select Neighborhood FAQs.
- If you take your dog along for the exercise, please remember the leash law is in effect in our counties. Also, doggie stations are available for sanitary measures.
